Ash and his Okuizome

Posted by Karen Faulkner on
Okuizome
I'm always fascinated by the cultural aspects of parenting and this little blog came along.

Baby Ash has a mummy from Japan, dad is Anglo Australian.

And isn't he a real cutie :-)

I got talking to them about their week and getting him ready for solids. His parents told me that in celebration of his 100 days on this earth he had had first food celebration.

In Japan they call this celebration an Okuizome.

The parents and family get dressed up and have a feast.

These are some of the things Ash will have experienced at his Okuizome.

By performing the ritual, they hope their child will always have good food in abundance and will never go hungry for the rest of his or her life.

I think that is such an awesome ritual and I hope you found it as interesting as I did.
