Alert on Domperidone and Motilium
There has been a recent alert on the use of Motilium and Domperidone and links to cardiac problems and even death. Now I'm not one to alarm you unnecessarily but I felt it was important info to pass along.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)  is advising that its use be limited to cases of nausea and vomiting only. It has been linked to possible electrical disturbances in heart activity.

Currently Domperidone/Motilium is used to increase prolactin levels which in turn leads to an increase of the supply of breast milk. It is known as a galactagogue i.e. a substance known to increase supply.

The Australian Breast Feeding Association (ABA) has advised recently (on 16/04/2014) that "Domperidone is a prescription drug used for decades for gastrointestinal disorders. There have been a couple of quality scientific studies done which show that domperidone appears to be an effective galactagogue too (2,3).These studies suggest that domperidone has few side effects. However, there have been recommendations that domperidone not be used in women with a history of cardiac problems (4)."
